WOODSTOCK VA: (WSVA) –

After residents in Shenandoah County reported several attempted phone scams this week, the sheriff’s office is drawing attention to a number of scams floating around the area.
Speaking on a podcast yesterday, Sheriff Tim Carter said that one known ruse in the county involves a text or email from someone claiming to be with a utilities company. The person will threaten to disconnect service unless an outstanding debt is paid with a gift card.
Carter says this is an obvious scam.

Another common scheme involves fake communication from someone claiming to be the U-S Postal Service. Captain Whitney Mauck says that if you aren’t expecting correspondence from U-S-P-S, that’s a red flag.
