DAYTON, Va – (WSVA)  Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that happened last weekend in Rockingham County.

The crash occurred at around 2:10 pm Saturday on Route 742, which is Waggys Creek Road, just west of Rumsey Lane in the Dayton area. 

Sergeant Brent Coffey reported that a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling east on Route 742 when it failed to maneuver a curve, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2010 Mercury Mariner.  

The driver of the Chevrolet, James J. Krause, 61, of Dayton, Va., suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Augusta Health, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.  

The driver of Mercury, Sue A. Perry, 70, of Hinton, Va., suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt.   

Speed is considered a factor in the crash.
