FALLS CHURCH, Va – A federal judge has re-authorized the removal of a large Confederate memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, just one day after issuing an order blocking its deconstruction.
On Tuesday, U-S District Judge Rossie Alston said that he approved the temporary restraining order after the monument’s supporters claimed that surrounding gravesites were being desecrated by its removal.
However, Alston said that after personally touring the grounds, he found that no graves had been disturbed.
The judge called the allegations “ill-informed” as he allowed the cemetery to proceed with the tear-down.
Governor Glenn Youngkin has said the statue could be moved to New Market Battlefield in Shenandoah County.
