WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — On Monday, October 19, 2026, at approximately 12:00 PM, a funeral service will take place at Riverview Cemetery to honor and lay to rest a veteran.

As part of the funeral services, official military honors, including a traditional 21-gun salute, will be rendered.

The Waynesboro Police Department is sharing this advance notice with the community to ensure nearby residents are aware of the loud noises associated with the ceremony and are not alarmed.

Out of an abundance of caution following the recent incident at Westwood Hills Elementary School, department staff have proactively coordinated with school administrators to inform them of the upcoming ceremony, its timing, and the expected military honors so that they may properly prepare students and staff.

The Waynesboro Police Department appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as we honor a veteran’s final service.
