JONESBORO, Ark. (JMU Athletics) – Ginny Lackey’s second brace in as many games propelled James Madison women’s soccer past Arkansas State, 2-0, in Sun Belt action in Jonesboro on Wednesday evening.
The Dukes (6-5-1, 4-1-0 SBC) controlled the pace of the match, outshooting the Red Wolves 18-to-5 and taking 11 corners to Arkansas State’s five. Lackey’s two goals headlined the scoring for JMU, with Tali Rovner and Olivia Del Toro assisting on her first and second goals, respectively.
Sofia Decerb started her twelfth game at goalkeeper, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves en route to her second clean sheet of the season.
Kayla Windsor led the way for Arkansas State (3-6-2, 1-4-0 SBC) with a pair of shots on goal. Taylor Sweat spent all 90 minutes in goal, corralling six saves.
How it Happened
• JMU’s offense set the pace early, outshooting the Red Wolves 4-to-1 in the first 15 minutes.
• After a rebounded Arkansas State corner kick, Rovner sent a through pass to Lackey, who converted her shot to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
• The Red Wolves threatened in the 28th minute, acquiring a corner and taking a shot on goal that was saved.
• Lackey struck again in the 75th minute, taking a shot off a pass from Del Toro to increase JMU’s advantage to 2-0.
• Arkansas State’s only shot on goal of the second half was in the 84th minute, resulting in a stop by DeCerb.
