FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (BC Athletics) – Nationally recognized Bridgewater College women’s volleyball extended their win streak to seven straight en route to a four-set win over Mary Washington on the road Tuesday night.

This win also marks the best start since 2019 at an overall record of 12-1.

Score: Bridgewater (BC) 3, Mary Washington (UMW) 1
Records: BC (12-1) UMW (4-5)

How It Happened
• Bridgewater brought out the same energy they finished with last Saturday afternoon as they quickly jumped out to an early lead to start the match. The Mary Washington Eagles did not shy away though. UMW stayed close throughout the first set and earned a lead change at 10-9. BC recovered effectively and took back the momentum push. BC landed a crucial scoring run to close the set as Reagan Stoop struck the final point to end the first set, 25-18.
• Although the BC Eagles continued to surge, the UMW Eagles hung in for the entire second set. BC created some separation as Claire Griffith and Maecy Ann Frizzelle paired up to strike astounding blows, leading to a 14-8 advantage. At 23-19 and with BC leading, UMW pressed on the gas and rallied back for a four-point swing and then took the set away from BC for a 25-23 score.
• In the third set, the BC Eagles came back without hesitation and soared. Once the set kicked off, UMW could not find an answer to the explosive BC offense. Maya Veselinovic, Agnes Alford, and Stoop teamed up to ignite a five-point streak for a massive 16-9 edge. Soon after, BC ripped off a seven-point burst to wrap up the third set for a 25-13 set score.
• BC did not look fazed by UMW’s efforts to stay on the Crimson & Gold’s heels. The BC Eagles pieced together short scoring runs to make the UMW Eagles work harder. Then, Stoop and Alford worked to push the lead to 17-10. The UMW Eagles hustled back and put together two separate scoring runs to tie the match at 19 apiece. After the timeout, Stoop put the offense back into a strong position to push a short lead. The UMW Eagles made a last push, but the BC Eagles came away victorious for their seventh straight win on the season for a 26-24 final set score.
