HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A new, secure 24-hour ballot drop box is now located outside of Harrisonburg City Hall to return absentee ballots for the upcoming November election.

The ballot drop box is located next to the City Treasurer’s payment drop box in the drive-thru lane and is available around the clock during periods when absentee ballots may be returned.

“This gives voters another secure option, whether they’re dropping off a ballot during the day, after work or on the weekend” said Mark Finks, Harrisonburg’s Director of Elections.

Voters can request to have a ballot mailed to them by filling out an absentee application and returning it to the Voter Registrar’s office. These forms can be found online on the Virginia Department of Elections website, or you can call the registrar’s office, and they will mail the form to you. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is October 23rd for this election.

Voters should make sure they place election ballots in the ballot drop box, rather than the adjacent Treasurer’s payment drop box. Ballots deposited in the election drop box are collected by election officials and handled according to Virginia election security procedures.

The drop box is available 24 hours a day during applicable absentee voting period through Election Day.
