AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Two Flock cameras have been removed in Augusta County.

Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith says two were removed on Friday, September 25, that were operating on Jefferson Highway.

Smith says the Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls and communications from citizens expressing concerns and uncertainty regarding the use of the cameras and the collection and use of information obtained through the system.

“As Sheriff, I have listened to the concerns expressed by the citizens of Augusta County. After hearing those concerns, I made the decision to remove the cameras from operation while we continue to evaluate the issues that have been raised. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the safety and security of the community while also respecting the privacy and rights of the citizens we serve. I want the citizens of Augusta County to know that their concerns matter to me. Our responsibility is to keep our community safe while ensuring that we respect the rights of everyone we serve,” Smith said in a release.

The Sheriff added that additional information will be provided as the Sheriff’s Office continues to evaluate the use of this technology.
