HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley (BICSV) announces a new art exhibition, Still Here, Still Becoming: A Eulogy for My Former Self, created by clients of BICSV’s support groups in partnership with James Madison University’s Graduate Art Department, the JMU Creative Propulsion Lab, and Artist in Residence Pato Hebert.

According to officials, over the past year, BICSV support group members have explored the “before and after” of brain injury — the process of releasing the self they were before their injury and learning to embrace who they are now. Using cyanotype printing and collage, participants created a series of images that give visual form to this journey of transformation and self-discovery.

The exhibition will be on view in the Collaboratory at the Harrisonburg Innovation Hub through the month of October.

“This exhibit is inspired by our clients. In the words of Pato Hebert, ‘Brain injury doesn’t deform us, it transforms us.’ It’s important to honor the growth and healing our clients experience through support groups and creative work,” said Sara Outler, Development Director at BICSV.
