AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County Public Schools appears hopeful a new tax referendum will win favor with voters this fall.

At their August 12th meeting, the Augusta County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution allowing a referendum proposing a 1% local sales tax increase onto the ballot this November.

Funds generated from the referendum are restricted to school construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects.

School officials announced yesterday that if the referendum passes, the estimated 8-million-dollar boost of additional revenue would support facility improvements including construction of a new bus garage, and renovations needed at Valley Career and Technical Center, Stuarts Draft Middle School and Stewart Middle School.

Voters will decide on November 3rd.
