STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Staunton Augusta County African American Research Society unveiled three new historical markers on Friday.

The markers honor three local African American churches including Augusta Street United Methodist, Ebenezer Baptist, and Mount Zion Baptist.

Staunton City officials say the ceremony celebrated the spiritual and cultural history of the community and was followed by tours of all three churches.

The markers can be seen on Augusta Street between Frederick Street and Churchville Avenue.
