HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – Drivers across the Shenandoah Valley may encounter delays this week as bridge replacement and shoulder repair projects continue in Augusta and Rockingham counties, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

VDOT spokesperson Brian Baer said motorists in Augusta County who regularly travel on Route 828 (Cattlescales Road) should plan for an alternate route over the next several days.

The roadway is closed to through traffic between Route 611 (Banes Road) and Route 796 (George Home Road) as crews replace a small bridge. The project is scheduled to continue through July 23.

During the closure, drivers are being directed to follow the posted detour route.

Meanwhile, in Rockingham County, daytime maintenance work will affect travel along portions of the corridor between Meadowbrook and Lacey Spring. Baer said repair operations will require closures of sections of the right shoulder through Friday, which could slow traffic during peak travel periods.

VDOT encourages motorists to use caution in work zones, remain alert for changing traffic patterns, and allow extra travel time when driving through affected areas.
