HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County has been named a recipient of the 2025 Impact Award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a distinction recognizing agencies that excel in providing high-quality, one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Only 20 of the more than 230 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide received the award, which honors organizations that consistently foster mentoring connections that help young people thrive.
In 2025, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham agency served 127 youth through its Community-Based, School-Based and Sports Buddies programs. The organization maintained mentoring relationships at rates well above the national average for 12-month match retention, a key indicator linked to positive outcomes such as improved confidence, stronger relationships, academic success and healthier decision-making.
Agency leaders credited the achievement to the dedication of volunteer mentors, participating families and staff members who work together to build lasting connections between young people and caring adult role models.
Executive Director Lindsey Douglas said the recognition reflects the commitment of the entire community.
“This award is not just a recognition of our agency and our team, who are dedicated to providing high-quality one-to-one mentoring services—it’s a reflection of the collective commitment of our entire community,” Douglas said. “Mentorship is a shared responsibility, and we are honored to work alongside incredible volunteers who make a lasting impact on the lives of local young people every day.”
