PENN LAIRD, Va. — Rockingham County officials say construction crews will soon break ground on an 80,000 square foot indoor recreational facility at Rockingham Park.
The county says that the facility, which was approved by supervisors in August but had been visualized since 2014. It will include a collegiate level indoor track, four full-size athletic courts, and other indoor activity space along with classrooms.
The $13.5 million contract was awarded to Lantz Construction, which expects to complete the project by early 2025.
All funds for the center were raised through the county’s Transient Occupancy Tax – a 5% collection on rentals at motels, hotels, guest rooms, campgrounds, and other temporary lodging paid by visitors to Rockingham County.
