HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County has been recognized as a Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) Impact Award Winner for program excellence in 2025.
Every year, the BBBSA Nationwide Leadership Council, made up of local agency leaders and board members, selects agencies for excellence in the organization’s signature 1-to-1 youth mentoring program. Out of more than 230 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County is one of 20 organizations to reportedly receive this top honor.
The Impact Award recognizes agencies that have demonstrated outstanding success in retaining the number of mentors (“Bigs”) and youth (“Littles”) matched through the program, year over year.
According to a release, in the past year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County has served 127 youth and built some of the strongest, longest-lasting matches in the country, with 12-month retention rates well above the national average across community-based, school-based, and Sports Buddies programs.
“This award is not just a recognition of our agency and our team, who are dedicated to providing high-quality one-to-one mentoring services—it’s a reflection of the collective commitment of our entire community,” said Lindsey Douglas, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County. “Mentorship is a shared responsibility, and we are honored to work alongside incredible volunteers who make a lasting impact on the lives of local young people every day.”
