BRANDYWINE WV: (WSVA) – A bit of rain Thursday helped emergency crews begin to get a handle on the Heavener Ridge Fire near Brandywine, West Virginia, but the U-S Forest Service says it’s still burning out of control.
Forest Service spokesperson Stephanie Chapman said that the Pendleton County wildfire has now consumed roughly 900 acres in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. As of last night, she said that blaze is just 10 percent contained.
About 70 firefighting units are on the ground and in the air, including a pair of 20-person firefighting crews, bulldozers, a drone and a helicopter.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
