MADISON COUNTY, Va – The Virginia Department of Forestry is responding to a 20-acre fire in Madison County.

The fire began late Tuesday and immediate suppression actions were initiated by the forestry department and local fire departments.

The fire has continued to slowly grow in size and officials say the remote, steep and rocky terrain is making containment difficult. The fire is adjacent to the Shenandoah National Park, and the Park Service is also aware.

Firefighters remain on scene and are joined by local fire departments, as well as U-S-D-A Forest Service and National Park staff.

There are currently no homes or structures in danger.
