A bus tour highlighting, and even promoting a slate of controversial books made a stop in Charlottesville last night.
Riders on the aptly-named Banned Bookmobile spoke out about the dangers of prohibiting literature, and handed out more than 40 free copies of banned titles that are most frequently banned across the country.
Mana Kharazzi with MoveOn.org, the group behind the tour, told Charlottesville’s NBC29 that the Banned Bookmobile is a direct response to what’s happening in libraries across the nation. Some titles handed out by the bus include Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye,” which deals with racial issues, and Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being A Wallflower,” which includes sexual and drug-related themes.
