National Teen Driver Safety Week is this week and the Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging parents to talk with their teens about the importance of driving safely and urges teens to speak up if they see something dangerous or feel unsafe in a vehicle.
So far this year, crashes involving teen drivers account for 15 percent of all crashes in Virginia, and teen driver crashes are up six percent over this time last year.
D-M-V advises teen drivers to buckle up, follow at a safe speed, always focus on the road, get enough sleep and never drink and drive.
