WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — It is a year in jail for the Waynesboro woman who pleaded guilty to depositing other people’s checks into her account.

According to online records, Janis Leigh Vicars was sentenced yesterday, Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Waynesboro Circuit Court. 

The 46-year-old Vicars pleaded guilty to a pair of felony counts of forgery back in December.

Authorities were contacted last July regarding nine checks that Vicars had deposited into her account between December of 2024 and June of last year using various ATM’s.

The total amount of the checks was over a thousand dollars, and she was eventually arrested on October third.
