GREENE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality.

At 5:37 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Virginia State Police responded to a crash on Spotswood Trail (U.S. Route 33), approximately one mile east of Skyline Drive according to a release.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, driven by 45-year-old Samuel Cordova Harrisonburg, Va., was traveling east on Spotswood Trail and reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crossed into the westbound lane.

The Sebring then swerved, overcorrected back toward the eastbound lane, lost control, spun, and struck a 2023 Volvo XC60.

Cordova succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Volvo was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
