HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City Council approved a supplemental appropriation request to appropriate additional funds during the current fiscal year for the Harrisonburg City School Board.

This request will reportedly require no additional local dollars from the city.

Director of Finance Larry Propst said during the meeting that almost $1.4 million will be appropriated for additional state and federal funding that HCPS has been awarded.

“Those funds can only be spent on education activities. It’s also pulling $56,000 from their fund balance to help fund some of their CIP items,” said Propst.

The council also reallocated almost $1.5 million from the completed Rocktown High School capital project to the Facilities project to fund various projects.
