ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County School Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett discussed the budget recommendation for the 2026-27 school year during last night’s school board meeting.
The total budget is about $201 million, which is over $10 million or approximately five and a half percent more than this year’s budget.
Dr. Shifflett said they want to think about their priorities when making the budget and reflective of what they hope to accomplish.
“When we look at our comprehensive plan, the things that we have addressed that we want to focus primarily on are school safety, academic excellence, employee recruitment and retention, student behavioral health. And as always, as we work through this budget, we want to be collaborative with our Rockingham County staff and their leadership,” said Dr. Shifflett.
The board will vote on the Superintendent’s recommended budget on March 23, 2026, during their regular meeting at East Rockingham High School.
