HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City School Board adopted the resolution endorsing the Virginia School Boards Association proclamation of March 2026 as Equity in Education Month during last night’s meeting. 

The resolution lists the acknowledgement of inequities becoming a challenge, and that several factors can affect the educational opportunities for students. 

The motion to adopt was made by Dr. Andy Kohen, who continued reading from the resolution that stated that the promise of public education is for every child to be successful in school and life. 

“We recognize the importance for Harrisonburg families, students, teachers, professional support persons, school administrators, and school board members to be aware of the diverse needs of learners and to encourage discussions of the challenges as a school community,” said Dr. Kohen.

The motion passed unanimously.
