Rockingham County, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Rockingham County School Board has advanced improvement plans for five schools classified as needing “Targeted Support and Improvement” due to specific sub-groups of students not meeting state identified goals.

Executive Director of Elementary Education, Sharon Martz said at Monday night’s meeting that schools with students needing focused help include Elkton, John Wayland, and Mountain View Elementary schools for students with disabilities, Cub Run for English Learners, and Pleasant Valley for Hispanic students.

“As TSI schools, these schools looked at multiple types of data including, but not limited to, reading data such as mClass.” Martz reported. “(They also reviewed) IXL data, Benchmark and SOL data to really identify the instructional areas to focus on.”

From there, improvement plans were developed following templates required by the Virginia Department of Education.
