An end-of-summer tradition is coming to an end in the commonwealth.

Virginia’s annual tax holiday weekend will not return for a 17th year this August.

According to the Virginia Department of Taxation, a 2006 bill that established the yearly period when school supplies and emergency preparedness items could be purchased sales tax free was not renewed last year by the General Assembly.

Because of that, the provision will sunset on July 1st – well before back-to-school season begins.
