We’re learning more about the officer-involved shooting in Harrisonburg last night at the Burgess Road Walmart.
Virginia State Police sergeant Brent Coffey said in a release this morning that authorities received a call around 8 o’clock last night regarding a individual acting erratically and threatening employees with a knife inside the store.
Coffey said that when Harrisonburg Police and Rockingham County deputies responded, 35-year-old Brandon S. Miles charged at them with the knife. One deputy fired a shot, striking Miles. He was taken to Sentara R-M-H where he later died from his injuries.
No citizens or law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
Virginia State Police are investigating following a request from Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson.
An officer-involved shooting last night brought one of Harrisonburg’s busiest locations to a grinding halt.
According to city officials, police responded around 8 o’clock last night to reports of several individuals involved in a dispute inside the Walmart on Burgess Road.
One of the individuals reportedly had a knife, and that person was eventually shot by a responding officer.
The suspect was taken to Sentara R-M-H following the incident, and the store was evacuated.
No officers were injured, and an investigation is underway.
