MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) — Mount Crawford Ruritan will be hosting a Community Benefit Breakfast today, October 11, 2025, to help the Shumaker family rebuild their home after the house fire that occurred on September 8, 2025.

Lexi Campbell with the Mount Crawford Ruritans said a few months ago, a family that had close-knit ties to the club had lost their home in a fire and they hosted a Benefit Breakfast.

“It was just kind of an automatic response when some neighbors here locally to the Hall as well lost their homes in another fire to put together another community breakfast,” said Campbell. “I know the family personally because I went to high school with Chris [Shumaker]. So, it was one of those things that I was like, ‘hey guys, we got another community member who needs us.'”

The event will hold free will offering donations along with selling mums and small games, in which all proceeds will go to the Shumaker’s.

Bridgewater Foods also donated food for the event. The menu includes sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes, eggs, applesauce and various drink options.

“I think going forward as we had these needs arise, the community willing to come together and help is extremely important to what we do, because as a community organization, it’s important for us to have the community knowing we’re here, knowing we’re there for them, and knowing that what we do is this kind of stuff,” said Campbell.

The Benefit Breakfast will be held until 11:00 AM today, October 11, 2025, in Mount Crawford Ruritan Hall.
