WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — Destination Downtown Waynesboro hosted a check presentation to celebrate the City of Waynesboro being awarded a T-Mobile Hometown Grant, providing $50,000 in funding.

Director of Economic Development and Tourism Greg Hitchin said during his speech that the funding will go towards the annual Virginia Street Arts Festival in May.

“You know Destination Downtown Waynesboro thrives to increase the economic vitality of our downtown area,” said Hitchin. “One of the ways they do that is through festivals and events just to call attention to what we have downtown, get new people to come visit, spend some money while they’re here and visit our shops.”

The celebration included a scavenger hunt for community members to participate in where they can find lunch and locations of 4 new murals that will be done during the Virginia Street Arts Festival.
