RICHMOND, Va. — On this first day of National Police Week, flags will be lowered across the commonwealth through sunset today in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Yesterday, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that U-S and Virginia flags will be at half-staff over all state and local government buildings in remembrance of officers who were killed or disabled in the line of duty.
According to the Officer Down Memorial database, no on-duty officer deaths have been reported in Virginia this year.
Seven commonwealth officers died in 2022.
