Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is defending his decision not to join most of his Republican counterparts in supporting a lawsuit that challenges the safety and approval of abortion medication mifepristone.
Earlier this week, Miyares told the Associated Press that he chose to stay out of the suit brought by 22 other A-Gs around the country because he wasn’t sure if they had legal standing to sue the Food and Drug Administration.
While the attorney general says he recognizes the drug’s long-standing approval, he’s also backed a push by Governor Glenn Youngkin to potentially ban abortions in the state after 15 weeks.
Yesterday, the F-D-A approved another abortion drug, Opill, for over-the-counter purchase.
