LURAY, Va – The Page County Board of Supervisors are thinking about imposing a plastic bag tax and they want to know how residents feel about that.

The board voted 5-1 at a work session earlier this week to hold a public hearing on the matter at its June fifth work session.

If the disposable plastic bag tax is approved, it would require retailers in Page County to collect a five-cent tax for each plastic bag they provide to customers.

County Administrator Amity Moler explained to the board that the money raised from the tax would go to support environmental cleanup, especially at the landfill.

If the consumer uses paper or reusable bags, then the tax would not apply.

If approved in June, the tax would take effect September first.
