A party turned deadly early Saturday morning when two men were shot and killed. The shooting occurred at a residence along Newberry Lane, off Stone Spring Road around midnight, according to Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson. Upon arrival, it was determined there had been a party at a residence there and two male subjects had been shot. Rescue units responded also, and both subjects were pronounced as deceased at that location, inside the residence. State Police, City Police, and JMU Police also responded to the scene according to Hutcheson.
The victims were identified as D’angle Maquise Gracy, a 22 year old male from Rocky Mount, North Carolina and a 17 year old juvenile from Harrisonburg. Neither of the victims were JMU students.
At this time the incident appears to be an isolated one that stemmed from an incident at the party, according to Hutcheson.
There is no suspect in custody, according to Hutcheson, who says there is no known reason to believe there as an ongoing threat to the community.
The crime scene was processed by the Virginia State Police and the investigation, which is very active and ongoing, is being handled by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
