DAYTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Harrisonburg man has turned himself in following a high-speed crash in Dayton early Saturday morning.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call of shots fired on Power Dam Road in the McGaheysville area at around midnight. When officers arrived, they determined multiple shots had been fired at individuals at a gathering in a residence. The suspect, 21-year-old Ricardo Bernardo then fled the scene.

A “Be on the Lookout” (BOL) was put out for the vehicle and was spotted in Harrisonburg near Erickson Avenue. Bernardo then eluded law enforcement and ended up crashing on Main Street in Dayton, where he fled the scene on foot.

After an extensive search by Dayton Police, Rockingham County Deputies, Virginia State Police, and Harrisonburg Police, Bernardo was not located.

Bernardo turned himself into the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Sunday evening and faces the following charges:

Attempted Murder, Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, Felony Property Damage, Hit and Run Felony, among others.

The charges for the shooting incident were placed by RCSO, the Elude was by the City of Harrisonburg, and the charges related to the crash were placed by Virginia State Police.

Bernardo is being held at Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail without bond.
