The Town of Elkton is getting a slap on the wrist from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality after the town failed to meet deadlines to upgrade its sewage treatment plant.
In 2018, Elkton announced plans to increase the plant’s capacity since it was processing nearly twice the amount of waste it was designed to handle. The town has until September 2022 to complete the renovations.
However, in a notice of enforcement, D-E-Q said Elkton had failed to meet the deadline, postponing construction due to inclement weather and supply chain disruptions.
The department has issued Elkton a new order
