SHENANDOAH, Va – A situation Thursday morning forced Page County School officials to close Shenandoah Elementary School early for the day.

The school went into lockdown mode at around 10:30 am after reports surfaced of a possible man with a gun on his side was in the vicinity.

Page County Sheriff Chad Cubbage explained during a press conference that authorities arrived, searched every room and following an investigation, detained a man for questioning.

Cubbage added that while no gun was ever present, the man did possess a knife located on his side.

As a result, 46-year-old Thomas Benjamine Loving was arrested and charged him with Possession of a knife on school property, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Cubbage said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.

Meanwhile, Page County School Superintendent Antonia Fox says although there is no current threat to any school, there will be increased law enforcement presence at all Page County schools on Friday and Shenandoah Elementary School will be closed on Friday.
