How It Happened
• Bridgewater jumped in front with the game’s first six points led by a pair of buckets from Riley Corcoran. Roanoke got on the board, but an Alexis Edmonds and-one layup made it a 9-3 edge. RC sliced the lead in half with another make from beyond the arc, but buckets from Jaden Alsberry and Jaiden Polston stretched the lead to seven points. The Maroons scored on back-to-back possessions for the first time all night to cut the lead back to a bucket, but a Jasmine Griffin three-pointe made it a 16-10 BC lead after the opening 10 minutes.
• The Eagles opened the second quarter much like the first with a 6-0 scoring run. Roanoke replied with a 7-2 run of its own to cut the lead back to seven with 6-11 to go in the half, but a Jay Garcia three-pointer started the turning pint in the game. The Eagles went on a 19-4 run over the final 4:26 of the half as RC was just 1-of-3 from the field during the span. Corcoran accounted for seven of the Eagles’ points over the timespan and a Griffin layup make it a 43-21 Bridgewater lead at the break.
• The Maroons struck first out of the break by the tune of a 5-2 edge. Edmonds drilled a three pointer to put BC back in business and she sparked a 16-6 scoring run for the Eagles highlighted by three BC makes from deep. My’la Green’s three-pointer capped off the run and made it 61-32 with 51 seconds to play in the frame. Roanoke made a pair of free throws at the end of the quarter to make it 61-34 heading to the fourth quarter.
• Roanoke opened the fourth quarter with the first four points of the frame, but a Griffin layup swing the momentum back to BC. Autumn Gentry kept it going with back-to-back three-point buckets and an Alexis Woods score got the lead to its largest of the night at 71-38. Roanoke scored three points down the stretch, but the damage was done.
