ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Water levels may not be very high, but people are still drawn to scenic waterways here in the Valley.

Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue is sharing some tips on how to safely go out on the water.

In a social media post, officials said to always check your boating equipment, always wear a life jacket, always bring a tool kit, and never drink and drive.

They add to take along plenty of water to drink and let someone know where you will be floating and what time to expect you back.

As always, make sure to check local forecasts, to make sure you don’t get caught in a thunderstorm while on the water.
