CHURCHVILLE, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Two arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of two women, after an altercation Saturday night in Churchville.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received a call for shots fired at the intersection of Buffalo Gap Highway and Churchville Avenue at approximately 10:35 p.m. The two female victims were ages 17 and 19. The suspects were seen leaving the area in a black Ford Mustang.

Deputies arrived in the area of Churchville Avenue, closed the roadway and established a perimeter around the crime scene. Evidence was collected at the scene and the suspects were identified as Isaiah J. Cassell, 21, of Mount Solon and Matthew T. Cassell, 20, of West Augusta.

Isaiah Cassell was arrested by Deputies in the 1100 block of Mount Solon Road. Several hours later Deputies arrested Matthew Cassell in the 600 block of Stribling Springs Road.

Both female victims suffered single gunshot wounds to the leg. Both are currently in stable condition.

Isaiah Cassell was charged with the following:
(3 counts) 18.2-53.1, Felony- Use, attempt to use, or display in a threatening manner a firearm while committing or attempting to commit aggravated malicious wounding.
(2 counts) 18.2-51.2, Felony- Aggravated Malicious Wounding Severely Injured Victim
18.2-26/18.2-51, Attempted Malicious Wounding

Matthew Cassell was charged with the following:
(3 counts) 19.2-123(D), Capias for violating conditions of bond.
(3 counts) 18.2-53.1/18.2-18, Accessory Before Use of Firearm in Commission of Felony
(2 counts) 18.2-51.2/18.2-18, Accessory Before Aggravated Malicious Wounding

Both Isaiah Cassell and Matthew Cassell are held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

This incident stemmed from a verbal altercation that occurred at a party, there is no threat to Augusta County at this time. Additional charges are possible as the investigation is still ongoing at this time.
