ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA says that it has a “dire need” to find foster or forever homes for dogs in its care as space in the shelter is dwindling.

In a release, Executive Director Huck Nawaz said the SPCA has taken in 150 more dogs through the halfway point of 2024 as compared to this time last year – an increase of about 30 percent.

He said that because of this boom, the facility is quickly approaching capacity.

Anyone who’s interested in becoming either a dog owner, or a dog guardian through the shelter’s foster program, is encouraged to visit the website rhspca.org to learn more.
