The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance with locating a missing person who was last seen on June 11, 2025, but was reported last night by a family member.
The Highland County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 55-year-old Charles Houston Smith of Monterey yesterday, June 23, 2025.
At approximately 1:57 PM today, June 23, Virginia State Police and Augusta County Fire/EMS and Augusta County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted to a train derailment along tracks in Augusta County.
According to online records, Justin Riley Harvey was sentenced to 5 years in prison, but those 5 years were suspended.
The incident occurred at 10:00 AM at the 1500 block of South Main Street on Thursday, June 19.
Bryce Cowett, 34, of Waynesboro, was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Abuse and Neglect of a Child.
The juvenile has been charged with Felonious Assault and Attempted Second Degree Murder and is being held at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
