WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — Westwood Hills Elementary School staff are preparing to return to school today after a shooting earlier this month where a gunman forced himself into the school and shot himself.

Staff will undergo trauma-informed training, mental health support, and classroom preparation today.

Tomorrow, a family open house will be at the school from 3-6pm and on Wednesday, staff will process feedback from the open house and receive additional crisis-recovery support.

On Thursday, the school will reopen for students and families who are ready to return.

School officials say that students who are not ready to return will be excused from absences.
