HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Two teenagers were shot and injured, one seriously, at Ralph Sampson Park after a group of people met in the parking lot of the park Wednesday evening.

Harrisonburg Police say one suspect has been arrested related to this incident and another remains at-large at this time.

Harrisonburg Director of Communications, Michael Parks, says the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received 9-1-1 calls at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, regarding shots fired in the park. Witnesses stated the suspect approached a vehicle in the parking lot and fired at least five shots into the vehicle, striking one individual in the chest and another in the arm.

Parks says this is believed to be an isolated incident between individuals that knew each other and not a random act.

HPD was informed shortly after the incident that two individuals with gunshot wounds had arrived at Sentara RMH. One individual with serious injuries was transported to the University of Virginia Health System, the other individual was treated and released from Sentara RMH overnight.

Original information provided to HPD indicated both victims were younger than 18. After receiving additional information overnight, it was learned that both victims are 19 years old. No additional information regarding the identity of the victims has been provided at this time.

Parks says HPD worked throughout the evening executing three search warrants and arrested one individual, a 17-year-old, in relation to the shooting. More information on charges related to that individual will be provided at a later date.

HPD continues to seek an additional suspect, 18-year-old Kaijhan Corbin (pictured), who is wanted for aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Corbin is 5-foot, 8-inches tall and weighs 124 pounds.

Anyone with information on Corbin’s whereabouts or this case is encouraged to call Crime Solvers at 540-574-5050 or visit www.harrisonburgva.gov/tip-411. Tips may be submitted online or by texting HPDVA and your tip to 847411.

HPD says the community should expect to see an increased police presence in the area surrounding the park for the time being out of an abundance of caution.
