SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office wants the community to be aware of a recent scam that is targeting veterans not only here in Shenandoah County, but across the country.
According to an online post, this scam is coming through the mail as a postcard, claiming to offer eligible veterans an additional $150 per month through something called the “VA Veteran Savings Program.”
The postcard appears official at first glance, using formal language and referencing programs such as CHAMPVA and TRICARE for Life. It urges recipients to call within five days to “help manage call volume,” a tactic reportedly often used to pressure veterans into responding quickly. However, it does not include a return address, and it lists a false phone number (804-259-0962).
If you or someone you know receives suspicious mail, emails, or phone calls promising new benefits, financial increases or requests for personal information, it’s important not to respond directly.
