HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA (RHSPCA) invites the community to support local animals throughout August with adoption events, family-friendly activities and fundraising partnerships across the region.

With hundreds of animals currently in care through the shelter and foster homes, every adoption, donation and partnership reportedly helps RHSPCA continue its mission of Helping Pets and People.

Klines Dairy Bar Pup Cup Giveback: Now through August 31 | Harrisonburg and McGaheysville locations
Buy a pup cup and Klines Dairy Bar will donate $1 to RHSPCA. Bring your dog for a summer
treat.

Klines Dairy Bar Dog Bowl Giveback: Friday, August 7 – Sunday, August 9 | Harrisonburg and McGaheysville locations Proceeds from participating dog bowl treats support animals in RHSPCA’s care.

Chick-fil-A Brownie Giveback: Now through Saturday, August 8 | Chick-fil-A Harrisonburg A portion of proceeds from participating brownie sales benefits RHSPCA. RHSPCA is also Chick-fil-A Harrisonburg’s nonprofit partner of the month this August.

Mobile Order Impact Night: Wednesday, August 13, 5–8 p.m. | Chick-fil-A Harrisonburg Order through the Chick-fil-A app during this window to make an impact.

August Events

Double the Purrs Adoption Event: Friday, August 7 & Saturday, August 8 | Adopt one kitten and get the second kitten’s adoption fee waived. Reduced fee for adoption of adult dogs and cats all weekend.

  • PetSmart Harrisonburg — 10:30 a.m.–noon Dogs onsite
  • Petco Harrisonburg — 1:30–3:30 p.m.

Mutt Strut at Common Wealth Crush: Sunday, August 9, 3–6 p.m. | Common Wealth Crush, Waynesboro | $5 admission A family-friendly dog parade and fundraiser featuring matching human-and-dog outfits (encouraged), a raffle, drinks and community activities.

Levitt AMP Harrisonburg Music Series: Wednesday, August 12 | Downtown Harrisonburg | A free, dog-friendly concert. Meet the RHSPCA team and learn about adoption, fostering and volunteering. Well-behaved dogs are welcome per event guidelines.

Tractor Supply Animal Days: Saturday, August 15, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. | Tractor Supply, Harrisonburg | Meet adoptable kittens and RHSPCA staff. Learn about fostering, volunteering and adoption.

Rockingham County Fair: Saturday, August 15, 1–4 p.m. | Rockingham County Fairgrounds, AG-tivity Zone | Learn about community cats, shelter services and fostering, plus family-friendly activities.

Kitten Adoption Event at Grand Home Furnishings: Saturday, August 15, 1:30–3:30 p.m. | Grand Home Furnishings, Harrisonburg | Meet adoptable kittens and speak with RHSPCA adoption counselors about the process.

PetSmart Adopt Joy Event: Saturday, August 22, 10:30 a.m.–noon | PetSmart Harrisonburg | Meet adoptable animals and foster options with RHSPCA counselors. Same-day adoption may be available for approved applicants.
