HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Public Works stormwater team and project consultants will soon host an open house to allow community members to help guide a drainage improvement study forward for the north section of the Northeast Neighborhood.

The public forum will take place Wednesday, September 30, at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center, 620 Simms Avenue, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Attendees will be able to view the existing conditions flood model of the neighborhood and help guide alternatives that will help alleviate flooding concerns throughout the area.

According to Sustainability and Environmental Manager Keith Thomas, previous efforts for the drainage improvement study process have included a drainage study of the south section of the neighborhood. This included Hill Street, along East Elizabeth Street and North Mason Street.

“We are excited for the community to help inform our next steps for evaluating stormwater infrastructure in the neighborhood,” Thomas said. “We encourage all in the area to join us and be part of moving this important work forward.”
