HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes, and even small critters are available through area animal rescues and shelters, as well as opportunities to help homeless animals through foster programs, donations and help with fundraisers and other family-friendly activities. Contact Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA or a rescue near you to learn more.

At 15 years old, Bertie has the face of a cat who has seen some things. He has opinions. He has wisdom. He has absolutely earned the right to spend his retirement somewhere peaceful.
Bertie is good with other cats and would be happiest trading the noise and activity of the shelter for a quiet home, a soft place to nap, and a person who appreciates the slower things in life.
He isn’t looking for much. Just comfort, companionship, and a home where he can settle in and be loved for exactly who he is.
And we think there’s something especially sweet about seniors finding each other. If Bertie is adopted by a senior human, his adoption fee is waived.
Fifteen years is a long time to gather stories. We’d love for Bertie’s next chapter to be the quiet, cozy one he deserves.
Come meet Bertie at the RHSPCA.

Dozer is a 8 year-old certified good ole boy with the heart, enthusiasm, and ball-chasing stamina of a much younger pup. Fetch is serious business in Dozer’s world, and he’d happily keep the game going as long as you’re willing to throw.
And if Dozer looks familiar, there’s a reason. This handsome guy is the model dog featured on our Foster to Save Lives poster, and he’s even been immortalized in original artwork by local artist Dana Ailer. What can we say? The camera loves him.

Now this sweet, playful muse is ready for his most important role yet: somebody’s best friend.
Maybe you’re his next muse, fetch partner, and forever person.
Come meet Dozer at the RHSPCA!
