MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) — A hay barn burned down in a blaze this morning in Rockingham County.
At around 9:15 this morning, Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway said multiple units from the surrounding area were dispatched to a reported fire on the 12-hundred block of North River Road in Mount Crawford.
“Coming down the road, you could see it was a pretty-well-involved fire,” Holloway said. “Units arrived on location and determined we had an equipment building attached to a hay shed and open barn area. It was heavily involved at this time.

Holloway reported that tankers were brought in due to the lack of water in the rural area, and in 35-minutes, units had brought the flames under control.
Even so, the building, the tractor, and equipment inside were determined to be an estimated 400-thousand-dollar loss.
Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the afternoon to monitor the fire and extinguish hot spots.
No people or animals were hurt in the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
