WINCHESTER, Va. (EMU Athletics) – EMU was back on the court Wednesday, making the short trip up to Winchester for a midweek ODAC matchup against Shenandoah.
The Royals battled for all three sets, making them competitive, but ultimately it was SU who picked up the sweep (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) over EMU.

Highlights
• SU took an early 3-2 lead, as EMU picked up points off an error and a Logan Turchetta kill. The Hornets then went on a 6-1 run to take a 9-3 advantage. The Royals then went on a run of their own, 5-1, using one kill each from Emma Rogers, Ella Lambert, Haley Atkins and Alyssa Carr, to pull within two. The teams then traded 5-0 runs, making the score 15-13, before SU went on another 5-0 tilt, getting to 20-13. EMU won five of the next six points, highlighted by a Turchetta kill and a block from Turchetta and Rogers. Shenandoah got to set point, 24-18, but the Royals kept fighting, pulling within three after a Lambert kill and a Rogers/Lambert block, but SU wrapped up the set with an EMU service error for a 1-0 lead.
• Neither team grabbed the momentum to start the second set until, with EMU leading 8-7 after a Rogers ace, SU went on an 8-3 run for a 15-11 lead. The teams swapped points to 17-15, but, after a Turchetta kill, the Hornets pulled ahead with a 6-1 advantage. Carr and Bly picked up kills to help EMU win four of the next five points, but an SU kill put them ahead 2-0.
• This time it was EMU taking an early lead, pulling out to a 7-2 advantage after two kills from Bly and an Emerson Moats ace. They would continue to lead to 10-4 before Shenandoah used a 9-1 run to take a 13-11 lead. EMU would respond with a 6-1 run, with Turchetta and Bly providing the offense and Cristina Colon picking up an ace. Late in the set, with EMU holding a 19-17 advantage, SU then surged ahead, winning seven of the next eight points. With the Royals facing match point, Lambert picked up another kill, but that would be it for EMU as a Hornet kill completed the sweep.
