HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 6th Congressional District Beth Macy will meet with veterans and military families Tuesday, Aug. 25, during a Veterans Appreciation and Support Event in Harrisonburg.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at AMVETS Post 7, located at 1340 N. Liberty St. The gathering will give former and retired military service members from across the district an opportunity to speak directly with Macy in an open forum about issues affecting veterans and their families.

Representatives from local and regional organizations that serve veterans are also expected to attend. They will provide information about veterans’ benefits, VA healthcare, suicide prevention and other available resources.

The Harrisonburg gathering is the third in a series of meetings Macy is holding with veterans, following events in Winchester and Salem.

Veterans, military family members and members of the public interested in veterans’ issues are invited to attend. A free meal, soft drinks and water will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special guests are scheduled to include retired Rear Adm. John Butler of the U.S. Navy; retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 and 2024 6th District congressional candidate Ken Mitchell; and U.S. Army veteran and legal advocate Paul Sullivan.

Macy said her connection to veterans’ issues is personal, citing her father’s service in the U.S. Army during World War II and the medical care he required after returning home.

“Meeting with veterans in an open forum is an important part of understanding their needs and ensuring they have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives here in Virginia’s 6th District,” Macy said.
